Finished Animal....

Well...We still got a little dyno work to do tomorrow at Jimmy's.

Prep Free....

The trailer is prep free....

Looks like the trailer may stay that way next season....No prep at the Nationals and no prep at Ga State....Dan put it to a vote and it was Unanimous.....NO PREP.

Looks like the first state race will be a cold one Feb. 3rd at Carnesville....I think race 2 will be at NGMS.

Taking a page out of Tony's book....

According to Tony doing home improvement projects produces excellent results on the track....Well we should be good thru atleast Daytona after installing the tile in the kitchen this past weekend....We all busted our asses including Devin and it turned out great...No way we can loose after all this work....LOL

Sunday, November 12, 2006

What goes around comes around....

I take lots of mental notes from post I read at Bob's....Tile went real well this weekend in the kitchen....I'll post some pics in a day or two.

Animal ran very strong.....

Wish I could say the same thing about the tires and driver...LOL The track was bad dry/slick and I couldn't get the kart under him good enough...Tires were soft just wouldn't stick....I had GP tires punching about 40 on for heavy and LT/TF tires punching around 60 for lite....Ran lite at 340 and heavy at 379.....The kart didn't like the extra weight....Got to get it on the scales and see where the numbers were.....?

We didn't finish well but did much better in lite....Kart was way too loose in heavy but better in lite and could run with them (we were prolly 30 lbs. lighter than the other two karts and both of them had sticker Firestones on the rightsides) But I don't think that was it....It was prep and I know the numbers were close then...We did lower cross.

We bolted the new HT5's after the racing was over...Had the kart on the grid....Matt walked by and didn't say a word....I walked up and tapped him on the shoulder and asked about making a couple of laps....Guess what.....? He said NO.....Did I hear him right.....? We have been racing at NGMS for 5 years and I have never been told we couldn't take a few laps after the races were over....That's all I got to say about that.....

Thanx for the power Jimmy....

We need some graphics cut....

I would like to have them based on the pic below....The number we need is 68 and we will need Falcon across the front and hopefully a sponsor graphic on each side. Any takers....?

Brian

Found it.....

The problem with the animal motor that is....It was just the main jet and the fact that it wasn't on the emulsion tube...It might have fallen into the bowl and I just didn't see it or hear it hit the ground at the track...Took me awhile to figure it out....Looking at the numbers on the jets was when I found it....I figured something was supposed to be screwed into the bottom of it because it was threaded...I got the left over parts from the carb build and found the jet that fits....I didn't know squat about these carbs before the problem....I know it pretty good now...Just might be a blessing in disguise.

Tuesday, October 24, 2006

Well I think I found the problem.....

It won't run without the main jet...I guess somewhere between Jimmy's and the track the main jet most have fallen in the bowl....When I pulled it off at the track it wasn't on the main emulsion tube and I didn't know any better....I do now. We will try to go run it again tomorrow to see if that fixes the problem.

Blowing alky out the puke tube....?

No I didn't have too many beers....This in on our new animal motor with only dyno time on it....Ran good on the dyno....Wouldn't run after hitting the track....It cut out no matter where on the track it was....Wouldn't run full throttle for more than 1/3 of a lap (1.5 mile oval).

There was alky coming out the puke tube and alky in the oil when we changed it today....Took the carb apart today and couldn't find anything wrong inside...Nothing stopped up...Put it back together and found an empty parking lot....Still did it.

Float is set at .850 and when I pulled the plug there was alky on top of the piston.

I'm pretty sure it's getting too much fuel....I plan on moving the needle down one notch...It's in the middle slot now.

If that doesn't work what should I try next....?

It's a HOSS.....

Just got back home with the new baby....It turned out really well....It has an almost 1 of-a-kind header on it...Jimmy has the only other one and the power is right up there with a new nationl level animal from one of the best...On the dyno anyway.

Look out Daytona here Wee come...

We got to work on the Animal.....

Went down to Jimmy's on Saturday and got a good start on the new Animal motor...It's different....Metric for one...Well most bolts are metric some are still standard...? Looks like I'll need a few new tools...5mm carb tools....JC Specialties is supposed to have them....A flywheel holder (I think I can make one)....Tool to lap the valves with and to take the keepers off with....No where near as simple as the flathead....I guess I'm just used to the flathead....I'm sure the animal will grow on me....Can't wait to see him out on the track with it.

Here she is....

Devin beginning the disassembly....

Stripped down block....

Here is the billet flywheel...

Jimmy heat treating one of the rings....

Here is the carb....

and the piston...I can't think Jimmy enough for helping us thru the years...He is a hell of a guy.

Volusia aerial photo.....

Not sure where the kart track is now.....I don't think it's the 1/8 mile one that is shown here......Sure would like to see one with the sealer on the track....?

Here is another one....

Sure was nice to run at home again....

Tonight we raced at our home track NGMS for the first time in over 2 months and had a good run....Finished 2nd in the heat and 2nd in the main.....The track was just a little ruff after the installation of the sprinkler system....It had a few ruts from all the pipe being laid....It wasn't as bad as I had expected it to be.

Devin didn't get a good start at the beginning of the main and had to fall back into 3rd place after starting on the outside front row....It took him about 12 laps to get around a fast 2nd place kart....By then the leader had about a 10 to 12 kart lead....Devin ran him down and finished the race beside him about 3/4 of a kart length short of a victory.....The new frame is just as fast as the old one was....FT in the main 13.09

Check out the LF.....

I'm not sure who the guy is but the pic was taken by a photographer at Volusia...I kinda stole the pic to post here but here is the link to his website.....

Looks like one fast track for the Daytona WKA Nationals this year....No more racing on the junky limestone track of years past.....I can't wait.

Brian

I don't like the new WKA tire rule.....

Here is the link....

The guys with deep pockets can figure out which date codes are the best and match sets according to spring rate....They can still have there trailer full of tires set up as many different ways as they can afford...Duplicate sets of course....Test them on the 27th and then use whichever tire combo works best for the Nationals.....I can't do that and neither could they if U still had to get your tires at the track the day of the race.....They will sale more tires and I bet a tester or two now.

Don't get me wrong...We will still be there and it looks like with the help of a couple of sponsor coming on board we Might get to run all the Nationals.....It should be fun....Hey atleast all the "Tires guys" will still have jobs....LOL

Brian

Friday, September 22, 2006

Well....Had a good time at Blueridge.

We didn't finish all the well...Ran 2nd in the heat and 7th out of 12 in the main....Kart was pretty good and Devin did a good job behind the wheel....He did have a run in with a tire...LOL I was really impressed with the track and the way it was ran....It is small and real tight....No room for error on this track and there ain't enough run off room. From what I hear this is the last year that Blueridge will be open....They sold the land the track is built on....The owner of the track is supposed to be looking for somewhere else to build a new track....I hope he makes it wider and builds in plenty of run off room.....The pits were full....I don't know how he will get all the trailers in for the 3rd Annual Thunder in the Mountains that is going to be held there Sept. 30th....We will be at Jimmy's building the new Animal and trying to get more power out of our old flathead.....See flyer below for info on the upcomming money race at Blueridge.

Friday, September 15, 2006

Headed to Blueridge to race tomorrow.....

I wish Dexter wasn't 3 hours away....Mr. Carl really knows how to run a track....$100 extra to the winner in any class with 5 or more karts and get this....The track opens for practice at Noon....Racing starts at 6:00 pm. U can't ask for better than that...We will be down that way before the year is up.

This will be our first time back at Blueridge since the second time Devin ever hit the track.....See pics below they were taken that day.....

From what I hear Blueridge is a one groove track with not much run-off-room....? I hope I heard wrong but I don't think so...I trust the info I got. I'm looking forward to the race and hope Devin does me proud....It's there points race and he will drive them as clean as he is driven or he will park the kart. Sounds like we will need soft HT3's....tires are rollin' downstairs as I type...LOL

We need all the practice we can get at diferent tracks....Wish us luck....!!!!!

For some reason it seems like it just changed....

Our luck that is....Just found this.....See below....

Speedway Dirt Series:
December 28 - 30:
Volusia Speedway Park, Florida

April 20 - 22:
Margarettsville Speedway, North Carolina

June 8 - 10:
Low Country Kartway, South Carolina - GN

August 10 - 12:
Beechnut Raceway, Tennessee

Sept 14 - 16:
Dexter Raceway, Georgia

That is the 2007 WKA National Dirt Series schedule...

Not sure why but it did....I could just feel it. We may only run the first one, but it helps with most being close...Except Margarettsville that one ain't too close.

Brian

Luck.......Is there anything to it.....?

All I know is mine is BAD....If I watch or listen to a Braves game they loose...Seems if we go to the track we loose...I can't help but watch. It just kinda pisses me off....Some say U make your own luck in racing by busting your ass in the shop....Well that is a lie...Cause we busted ours and got it handed to us at 24 Raceway. I guess every race team goes thru hard times and we have had more than our share since the end of July.

24 Raceway was a decent track just very sandy and I throw everything I could think of at it set-up wise and could keep the kart under him....I hope it's not something with the new chassis....We will find out at NGMS this weekend....If we can't run competitively up there then something is wrong. I worked on tires last night and we will re-scale the kart tonight and work on tires some more....On the up side we didn't break anything at 24 and the new generator ran like a dream.

I just needed to rant a little....

We got a new toy.....

Got us a 3000 watt generator from Pep Boys today....Cost us right at $350 out the door.....I owe a big Thank You to my wife....She is one hell of a woman and likes our racing almost as much as I do....I'll keep the blog posted as to the happiness after we use it for awhile. Just got to put the new axle in, mount the seat, body and the new frame will be ready to go.
