How to fix a fiberglass kart body.....

Start with a broken body....That's the easy part. I had to hunt this piece down after the races were over....The corner worker had thrown it off the side of the track.

Supplies....Resin and hardener, blue painters tape, rubber gloves, paint brush, scissors, fiberglass mat, mixing bowl and stick to stir the resin with.

Match the piece back up the best U can and use blue painters tape to hold it in place...Tape it on the front side only.

Cut a piece of fiberglass mat to fit the area and dry fit it before mixing the resin.

Read the directions for the proper mixing of the resin and hardener....

Use a cheap paint brush to apply the resin the the back side and then place the fiberglass mat on the area and brush more resin on top of the mat until it is totally saturated.

I like to roll the tape over the edge to help rebuild the missing edge....It works pretty well....Let dry and then remove the tape.

Now it just needs a little touch up paint.

It worked.....

Had some good runs at Dawgwood last night....Ran 3rd in the Animal lite heat and 2nd in Animal med. We finished 2nd in Animal lite and it rained the Med feature out so we got 2nd place money in both classes....Best part is we made some good decisions with set-up, gearing and TIRES.....It's just like Bradley says...."It's all about the tires..." Devin drove the wheels off of it all night long. We got pretty fast too...He was in the 12.50's for the lite feature. I didn't Kevin any faster then in the 12.40's but he may have gotten into the 12.30's once or twice. This was the best night race we have had at Dawgwood in years....The track was good and smooth and didn't get dusty, it still didn't have a whole lot of bite but was much better than it was last year.

Hope we have a better run this weekend......?

Headed back to our home track for only the second time this year....Yea I know...How can it be your home track if U have only ran there twice this year....? It just is.

We ran like crap at the last Ga Maxxis race.....13th our of 33 in Animal Pro and 15th out of 20 in Animal med....We only ran Pro to try to figure out what to run in Med.....Needless to say it didn't work. This may be the first time I have no clue what was wrong...We had new tires and the new Bully clutch pulled like a mule....Set-up should have been close gearing was right....I really don't know....?

That's why we are headed back to Dawgwood to get our mojo back....Even if we run in the back it always seems to help to go back home and run a few laps.

Hope we do better than Tony.....

Looks like he needs to do some work around the house with his luck today at Dover...We have done our share in the last month....Me and Devin have been working on an outside patio and it's finished. We laid about 200 sqft of scrape granite I brought home form work and it's even got a fire pit....Here are some pics.

Maxxis Ga State race May 17th......

Another 7th place finish for us....Qualified 7th with a 14.983 pole was 14.727 finished 7th and didn't get but a tenth faster...Bradley won it and got alot faster...His fast time was a 14.449

The kart would not stay in the groove coming out of the turns...Devin said it felt tight going in....I know now what I should have done.....Atleast we learned something.....We had plenty of HP.

Here are some pics I took before the races started....

Here are some pics of the best kart buggy made....Rolls like a charm and even has a break to keep it from rolling off when it's parked. Contact Griffin with Rebel Fabricators for more info....706-618-9801

We had some good dyno runs at Jimmy's.....

I can't say enough about Jimmy....He has helped us since day one and really knows his Animals....Let's just say both me and Devin left with a grin. I think we will have plenty of HP for the Carnesville Maxxis State race next weekend.

Missing piece on carb....

It makes no since that WKA won't allow us to silicone it in....?

We finally got to run at Peachstate....

We didn't have a good one....

Qualified 10th out of 14 Devin went a 16.68 and I think the pole was close to a flat 16.

Made some adjustments to the kart and worked the hell out of a set of tires and got faster for the main.....Finished 7th Devin's fast time was 16.19 the two lead karts fast lap was 16.00.

The kart wouldn't stay running on the track when they stopped them to re-line them back up after a false start....He had to be recranked 2 times and started in the back......I was down close to turn 1&2 when all this happened because I wanted to see if the kart was doing the same down there as it was in 3&4.....My mistake...Devin was none to happy with me....LOL He jumped to about 8th right off the bat and stayed there for a few laps till he got just alittle too high in the groove in 3&4 and slide off the track going down the front straight....He did hold on and didn't spin but lost about 1/2 a track on the lead group.

Peachstate had no bite in it at all...Kinda reminds me of North Ga.

We scaled the kart out before we even washed it so we should have a better baseline to work from at the next Maxxis State race over there in June.

It's now time to get ready for the double points race at Carnesville next weekend....Headed to Jimmy's tomorrow evening to work on the motor....I fixed the warped head and that stopped most of the leak on the exhaust valve side....Cylinder wall looked good and the rings held good....Got a thing or two to try on the dyno.

I guess I should watch what I ask for.....

The Maxxis race at Carnesville was rained out today....It would have been the first time Devin raced without me at the track in 7 years.....I hoped it would rain it out....It did. Daddy came thru and drove the van and trailer....I stayed home with Jennifer....She is doing well after back surgery Monday, but still needs some help getting up out of bed.

Stocklite win at Dawgwood....3-16-08

Had the wrong front gear on up until right before Mid round practice....Tried about everything on the tires but figured out what worked by the Stocklite feature.....Turned a 11.81 FT and that was with 3 race old Maxxis....The other 4 karts had on RS Firestones.....The 99 kart that Devin passed for the lead had sticker Stones....I don't know what they had in them we have never had a set of Stones.....Griffin says they are atleast 2 tenths faster than Maxxis....That 2 tenths would have put us alot closer to the front runners in med. Hit the tires coming off 4 in med was running pretty good but not a threat for a win.....Got some great advice from Griffin and made a change or two for lite and it paid off....Devin should have The Rebel Fabricators Ultimate bead breaker video done this week....I'll post a page here on our blog to the info about it...It's really the best I have ever seen.

Below is the raw footage...I'll make a shorter version and post it as the main video when I have time, but I'll keep a link to this one in the same post.

How we purge our animal motor.....

Step by step....

1. Drain the bowl and disconnect the fuel line from the tank.

2. Take the sparkplug out and turn the motor over until all the alky is out of the fuel lines.

3. Run the fuel line U just took off the tank and put it in the gallon of premixed gas and Marvel Mystery Oil, with the sparkplug still out turn the motor over again until the mixture reaches the carb.

4. Put the sparkplug back in and crank the motor.....Let it run for about 30 seconds or until it starts to smoke.

5. Drain the gas from the carb and fuel lines, then take the sparkplug back out and squirt some of the oil U run in the motor down the hole.....Turn the motor over a few times and put the plug back in....Turn the motor over by hand till it's on the compression stroke....Your done. Don't forget to put the drainplug back in the bowl of the carb.

It works for us and should for Ya'll as well.

PS.....Always turn your animal over by hand until it's on compression stroke every time U run it....It's best if the valves stay in the closed position unless it's running.
