Opening day report from.....NGMS.

Well the place was packed....Prolly the most karts we have seen other than at a State race or two....New clay is great...No where near as bumpy as I thought it would be...Rodney did a good job putting the new clay down....It will get smoother. We had a good day....One of those days that the kart is quick when we unloaded it and it stayed fast all day with the right tires on it....Only time we were slow was with the HT5's....That is a good thing because the track will pick up a bunch of bite by the State race on the 31st. It was nice to see some of our racing friends and bench race with a few...Nothing like catching up after a long winter....Lot's of new faces...Most of which I guess are comming from Blueridge. Posted below are some pics Jennifer took at the track today...Thanx Baby.

Opening day....NGMS

Well tomorrow is play-day at NGMS....We just about got the kart ready....Still haven't used the new scales....We don't even have a stand...Got to get one....The Smart-tool shipped today...Maybe we will get it tomorrow....? Check back tomorrow night or Sunday morning for pics form opening day.

We got the new button heads installed....They weigh less and look much better....If there is a demand we will start selling a kit with wheel studs....Gear studs (no guard) and a new set of lug nuts.....How's $10 sound.....? I'll post some pics if anybody wants to see them....?

Parking may be a pain this year at NGMS....All of the up close parking is already gone....Free parking will fill up fast, better be there right when the gates open.

This is what the new Animals are gonna look like...We still have to have the cover powder coated....Not sure what color.

Well I said I had more to say.....

The sniffer worked well at Daytona.....Yea maybe a few got by. That wasn't the case at the State race......Point blank....? It sucked. Only one tossed on tires.....? BS....ain't no damn way.

I'll give it one more chance at the next one March 31st at NGMS....We were quick without prep and it was very cold....No calcium on the track and it still had ice in it at 11:00am....I can't believe we even got to race.

Sniffer.....

1. Back the hell up away from where the karts are firing up......It's way to touchie.....It will work right, under the right conditions, if used right.....This past Sat.(2/3/07) it was cold and very windy.....Karts fired up and it set the sniffer off.

2. Reset it every time if that's what it takes.....? No need for arithmetic....Just read the number on the screen and call it out to the girl writing it down so everyone can hear.

3. Get a standard tip and stick with it.

4. Make it well known in advance to all your sponsors that U will toss thier ass if they cheat on tires.....Including Simple Green....Or remove NO PREP from the rule book.....I promise the kart count will go up if U enforce the sniffer rule.

5. The same person should use it all day long.

The sniffer will work.....Just give it a chance.

Now for an idea to draw more locals....Trophie only $10 entry fee...$5 temp membership required to enter....5 kart min. pre-entry to have class added to schedule.....Just for the fun of it....If time doesn't allow just draw number and race....Seems like a good way to get the locals to show up and race without having to run against the State race boys...? No reason Ya'll can't get 300 karts at NGMS on the 31st.....I will do my best to get them there....I really am on your side.

Medium results...

Multimedia message

Stocklite...

State race story....Short version.

I can assure U I have much more to say....Just not ready to type it all in this morning.....

Qualified really bad....7th out of 8 in Lite and 17th out of 18 in Med....We were 1.2 seconds off the pole in one of the classes.....I couldn't figure out what was wrong....So I found someone with a set of good scales and found out our bathroom scale set-up doesn't work to well....Numbers were off and I readjusted some lead and got them where I wanted them....Stocklite was the first race and the kart came to life....Devin turned the second fastest lap of the race but spun right after making the pass for 3rd....He finished 6th. I had to guess where to add the lead we needed to make weight for medium because by that time I couldn't find a set of scales to get on....Kart was still quick but not near as good as Lite...He finished 14.....It was VERY COLD and we didn't leave the track till 10:00 pm.

Different take on the WKA Dirt tire rules.....

I'm not trying to pick a fight here....But please direct me to where in the rule book it says "NO PREP".....?

Rule as it is stated on WKA website......

2007 WKA Briggs & Stratton Speedway Dirt Series Tire Rules - updated 11.16.06

Tire Rules

1. Competitors will bring “NEW” mounted or un-mounted spec tires to the event.
2. Tire cutting will not be allowed.
3. Competitors may practice on any set of legal spec tires.
4. Spec tires will be branded at the beginning of each race day.
5. Competitors must qualify and race on the same set of spec branded tires.
6. Competitors may run the same set of spec tires on both days.
7. Tires will be re-branded on the second day of the race event.
8. The JTR Eagle will be used for tire tech on race days.
9. Tire prepping will continue to be controlled by the JTR Eagle.

Key word here is "controlled"....That to me leaves a "Grey area"....Not much different than the tech rule about after market springs and don't forget the billet lifters that everybody uses in the flatheads.

Now if they would automaticaly take one tire from each of the top 5 karts in every class and have them tested....That would stop all prepping.....Does anybody know if WKA even impounded 1 tire from the Daytona race.....?

Let me make one thing very clear here guys.....We didn't use anything but pure water on our tires at Daytona this year.....We were 4 tenth off the pole in Stocklite and missed the main in Med by just 4 hundredths....I don't know how many (if any) that qualified in front of us were using prep.....? A very well know karting guru has recently posted at 4cycle that he believes that even with as little prep that can be used and still get by the sniffer it's worth 2-4 tenths in qualifying.....? I don't know how accurate that is but I do intend to find out for myself when our home track opens, where we can run prep......I don't intend on using anything but water this weekend at the Ga State race....However...If I see it going on and nothing is done to stop it....what am I supposed to do......? To be completely honest I'm not sure what I will decide to do.....? Only two chooses as I see it.....Join them or forget the rest of the State races. Please don't give me the "work on your setup" routine there ain't no way we can give up 2-4 tenths and still be competitive running against the Big Dawgs.....JMO

Tires are ready for State.....

Tires are done.....I got all but one of the Right sides balanced pretty good....I guess Devin had some of them already finished because I didn't have to do anything to about half of them....One or two I just took lead off....I matched them up by how round they were and how much tread there is left....They are all marked in sets with a S for State the grade I felt they were and I sized all of them....All in all they turned out really well....Stagger is good on all the sets.

Thanx to Travis York for cutting all 3 sets for us.....We got different tread depths to try and find out what works best.

I still have to get the motor finished and we got the get the body hung.

Our first National.....

Well I'll start with the first day/night race we ran.... We qualified 7th out of 9 in animal lite... Ours was the only kart on HT5's all the rest were on Vega's.... The kart was good on the starts and he jumped to 2nd but of course there was a yellow.... Devin's kart was fast and the other were slower... My guess is the difference in tires.... The Vega's needed a lap or two to come in... He got into a couple of karts in front of him..... He was quick for about 5 laps and then the tires went away and he ended up spinning out and couldn't get it out of the grass.... End of the night for us.

Day 2 was the WKA Stocklite race.... Qualified 17th out of 25... He worked his way up to about 12th and got into another kart.... He bent the RR wheel and the kart went straight to the back and was a handful to even keep on the track.... He pulled off about lap 16 when he got lapped.... I had a talk with him about being too aggressive and that he needed to be more patience.

Day 3 was a heart breaker.... Qualified 28th out of 40 in Stock Medium but they only take the top 20 the rest had to go to 2nd round.... Made some adjustments and the kart got quicker but not quick enough.... Ended up 34th and didn't make the main.... Missed it by 4 hundreds of a second. We left the trailer at the track and went back to pick it up on the first day of the Prep and Cut days at Volusia.... We looked at there times that day for animal med and Devin's time that didn't even make the WKA race was faster than the pole.....? Beats me I guess the track just fell way off.

That's about it for racing....The beach was warm, beer was cold and we had a blast.
